Acis and Galatea
Album by George Frideric Handel & Dawn Kotoski & David Gordon & Glenn Siebert & Jan Opalach & Seattle Symphony Chorale & Seattle Symphony & Gerard Schwarz
Acis and Galatea is a pastoral masque by George Frideric Handel, first composed and performed in 1718. Written in the English Baroque vocal tradition, it blends solo arias, choruses and continuo-accompanied recitatives with pastoral instrumentation and textures, and it marks an early instance of Handel's shift from Italianate opera towards his English vocal works.
First released: 1991
