Symphonies no. 3 "Scottish" / No. 4 "Italian"
Album by Felix Mendelssohn & Academy of St Martin in the Fields & Sir Neville Marriner
Symphonies No. 3 "Scottish" and No. 4 "Italian" are orchestral symphonies by Felix Mendelssohn, composed in 1842 and 1833 respectively. No. 4 features bright, dance-like themes and Classical clarity reflecting Mendelssohn's Italian travels, whereas No. 3 is more contemplative and atmospheric, drawing on impressions of Scottish landscape and marking a later, more reflective phase of his symphonic writing.
