Album by Ludwig van Beethoven & Murray Perahia & Koninklijk Concertgebouworkest & Bernard Haitink
Piano Concertos Nos. 4 and 5, the latter nicknamed "Emperor", are a pair of piano concertos by Ludwig van Beethoven, composed between 1805 and 1809. Rooted in the Classical tradition yet moving toward early Romanticism, they feature virtuosic piano writing, expressive orchestral dialogue and formal innovations that mark an important stage in Beethoven's compositional development and in the evolution of the piano concerto genre.
