Pictures at an Exhibition is a suite for solo piano by Russian composer Modest Mussorgsky, composed in 1874. The work is programmatic in nature, characterised by vivid pictorial gestures, bold harmonies and distinctive piano textures that depict a sequence of visual scenes, and it has played an important role in the development of Russian nationalist music while being frequently arranged for orchestra and adopted into the concert repertoire.
