Symphony no. 1 in D major
Album by Gustav Mahler & The Philadelphia Orchestra & Riccardo Muti
Symphony No. 1 in D major is the first symphony by Austrian composer Gustav Mahler, completed in 1888. The work combines late-Romantic orchestration with folk-influenced melodies, dramatic contrasts and expansive formal structures, and it represents Mahler's emergence as a symphonist who broadened the scale and expressive range of the symphony in the late 19th century.
