Symphony no. 5

Album by Gustav Mahler & Budapest Festival Orchestra & Iván Fischer

Symphony No. 5 is the fifth symphony by Austrian composer Gustav Mahler, completed in 1902. The work is a large-scale late-Romantic orchestral composition characterised by a funeral march, prominent brass writing, expansive lyrical passages and a rousing finale, and it represents a shift in Mahler's output toward purely instrumental structures that had a significant role in the development of the symphonic repertoire.
