Transcendental Studies / Mephisto Waltz No. 1
Album by Franz Liszt & Georges Cziffra
This release is a mid-19th-century collection of virtuosic piano works by Franz Liszt, composed circa 1852–1860. Rooted in the Romantic tradition, the music combines extreme pianistic demands, vivid dynamic and textural contrasts and adventurous harmonic language, and it occupies a place in Liszt's mature output that emphasises programme-driven, characterful writing and the expansion of the piano repertoire.
