Symphonies nos. 40 & 41 “Jupiter”

Album by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart & Koninklijk Concertgebouworkest & Nikolaus Harnoncourt

These are two late symphonies by Austrian composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, composed in 1788. Rooted in the Classical style, they employ transparent orchestration, concentrated motivic development, heightened harmonic and rhythmic drama and, in the later work, notable contrapuntal complexity, representing the culmination of Mozart's symphonic writing and an important link to nineteenth-century symphonic developments.
First released: 1992
