Symphony no. 5
Album by Gustav Mahler & Benjamin Zander & Philharmonia Orchestra
Symphony No. 5 is the fifth symphony by Austrian composer Gustav Mahler, completed in 1902. The work is scored for a large orchestra and is characterised by dramatic contrasts, intricate orchestration and expansive formal design, marking a shift from Mahler's earlier song-based symphonies toward a more purely instrumental, late-Romantic symphonic statement that occupies a central place in the repertoire.
