Symphonies Nos. 5 & 6
Album by Ludwig van Beethoven & Wiener Symphoniker & Otto Klemperer
Symphonies Nos. 5 and 6 are a pair of symphonies by Ludwig van Beethoven, composed and first performed in 1808. No. 5 is built on a compact four-note motif with strong rhythmic drive and dynamic contrast; No. 6 has lyrical themes and programme-like passages that suggest scenes of rural life, and they indicate Beethoven's shift to larger-scale structures and greater expressive range in his middle period.
