When Lilacs Last in the Door-yard Bloom'd: A Requiem 'For Those We Love' is a choral-orchestral requiem by German composer Paul Hindemith, completed in 1946. The composition combines Hindemith's neo-classical craftsmanship with late-Romantic harmonic density, scoring large forces for chorus and orchestra with contrapuntal textures and sombre, reflective sonorities, and it belongs to his postwar American period as one of his large-scale choral works.
