Carmina Burana is a scenic cantata by German composer Carl Orff, first performed in 1937. The work employs large mixed chorus, soloists, orchestra and prominent percussion to produce stark, rhythmic and modal textures drawing on medieval texts and folk-like motifs, and it represents a pivotal point in Orff's career that helped define his approach to music theatre in the mid-20th century.
