Corelli Variations, op. 42 / Etudes Tableaux, op. 39

Album by Sergei Vasilievich Rachmaninoff & Vladimir Ashkenazy

Corelli Variations, Op. 42 and Etudes-Tableaux, Op. 39 are solo piano works by Sergei Rachmaninoff, composed in 1931 and 1917 respectively. They exemplify Rachmaninoff's late-Romantic pianistic idiom, with dense chromatic harmonies, broad melodic writing and technically demanding passagework that mark their place in his later piano output and in early 20th-century repertoire.
