Symphony No. 3 in E-flat major, Op. 55, known as the 'Eroica', is the third symphony by Ludwig van Beethoven, composed in 1803-1804. The work expands the scale, structure and emotional range of the classical symphony with extended movements, bold harmonic progressions, rhythmic drive and concentrated thematic development, marking Beethoven's move from his early to middle period and signalling a broader shift from Classical to Romantic composition.
