Ein Heldenleben and Don Quixote are orchestral tone poems by Richard Strauss, composed in 1898 and 1897 respectively. Both works use a large orchestra and extensive thematic transformation with rich orchestral colour, and they come from Strauss's middle period when he moved from early experimentation into mature tone-poem writing within the late Romantic tradition.
