Rachmaninov plays Rachmaninov: The Ampico Piano Recordings (1919–29)

Album by Sergei Vasilievich Rachmaninoff

Rachmaninov Plays Rachmaninov: The Ampico Piano Recordings (1919–29) is a compilation album of reproducing-piano rolls by the Russian composer-pianist Sergei Rachmaninov, recorded between 1919 and 1929. The performances document Rachmaninov's late-Romantic pianism—broad tempos, expansive rubato and dense, richly voiced textures—and serve as primary-source documents of his interpretative approach during his later career in exile.
First released: 12th February 1990
