Petrushka (1947) - Symphony in Three Movements
Album by Igor Fyodorovitch Stravinsky & Simon Rattle & London Symphony Orchestra
This album is a 1947 release of orchestral works by Igor Stravinsky. The recordings juxtapose Stravinsky's earlier ballet-derived chromaticism and vivid orchestration with his mid-century modernist, neoclassical approach characterised by sharp rhythmic drive, complex cross-rhythms and striking orchestral colours, placing the release at a crossroads between his pre-war Russian-inspired idiom and his later explorations of form and texture.
First released: 1988
