Piano Concerto no. 2 / Three Preludes

Album by Sergei Vasilievich Rachmaninoff & Royal Philharmonic Orchestra & Sir Malcolm Sargent & Dame Moura Lympany

Piano Concerto No. 2 and the Three Preludes are classical works by Sergei Rachmaninov, composed in 1900-1901 and in the 1890s respectively. The concerto is a Romantic piano work that combines sweeping melodies, dense orchestration and virtuosic piano writing, while the preludes are shorter piano pieces that use compact forms and expressive harmonic language, and both belong to his early output where he developed melodic and pianistic traits later seen in his compositions.
