Messiah is an oratorio by George Frideric Handel, first performed in Dublin in 1742. Scored for choir, soloists and orchestra, it exemplifies Baroque choral writing with recitatives and da capo arias and stands as an important work of Handel's English-period output and of the Baroque oratorio tradition.
