Symphony no. 4
Album by Dmitri Dmitrievich Shostakovich & Valery Gergiev
Symphony No. 4 is the fourth symphony by Soviet composer Dmitri Shostakovich, completed in 1936. Scored for a large orchestra with dense textures, jagged rhythms and striking dissonance, it was withdrawn from performance in 1936 amid political pressure and represents a more experimental, modernist statement that contrasts with the more conservative direction he adopted thereafter.
