Alexander Nevsky
Album by Sergei Sergeyevich Prokofiev & Irina Arkhipova & The Cleveland Orchestra Chorus & The Cleveland Orchestra & Riccardo Chailly
Alexander Nevsky is a cantata by Russian composer Sergei Prokofiev, derived from his 1938 film score and first arranged for concert performance in 1939. The work combines chorus and orchestra with modal melodies, sharp brass writing and rhythmic ostinatos to evoke medieval Russian themes, and it exemplifies Prokofiev's shift in the late 1930s toward more overtly nationalistic, vocal-orchestral writing in his output.
