Symphony No. 2 is the second symphony by Austrian composer Gustav Mahler, completed in 1894 and premiered in 1895. A large-scale late-Romantic symphony scored for expanded orchestra, chorus and vocal soloists, it moves through dramatic contrasts and thematic transformation toward a final choral culmination, marking a key step in Mahler's development towards his mature, monumental symphonic style and the incorporation of vocal forces into symphonic form.
