Lieutenant Kijé Suite / Symphony No. 5
Album by Sergei Sergeyevich Prokofiev & Paavo Järvi & Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra
Lieutenant Kijé Suite / Symphony No. 5 is a pairing of orchestral works by Russian composer Sergei Prokofiev, composed in 1934 and 1944–45 respectively. The suite features witty, melodic material and colourful orchestration drawn from a film score, while the Fifth Symphony presents expansive, formally structured themes combining lyrical and martial elements that exemplify Prokofiev's mature symphonic language and his place in mid-20th-century Soviet music.
