Concertos for Cello and Orchestra, op. 107 and 126
Album by Dmitri Dmitrievich Shostakovich & Viviane Spanoghe & Sofia Soloists Chamber Orchestra & Emil Tabakov
Concertos for Cello and Orchestra, Op. 107 and Op. 126 are the two cello concertos by Dmitri Shostakovich, composed in 1959 and 1966. They juxtapose austere, often terse orchestral textures with angular cello lines and moments of sombre lyricism, and they occupy a significant position in Shostakovich's late-period output as concentrated expressions of his evolving musical language.

First released: 1st December 1995
