The King Goes Forth to France is an opera by Finnish composer Aulis Sallinen, first performed in 1984. Musically it blends lyrical orchestral writing with modernist harmonic idioms and declamatory vocal lines, drawing on Nordic tonal colours and illustrating Sallinen's move towards larger-scale operatic forms.
