Symphonie Nr. 5
Album by Gustav Mahler & Gewandhausorchester Leipzig & Václav Neumann
Symphonie Nr. 5 is the fifth symphony by Austrian composer Gustav Mahler, completed in 1902 and first performed in 1904. The work exemplifies late-Romantic orchestral writing, employing large forces, sombre funeral-like brass fanfares, expansive slow passages and a progression from introspective material to a more extroverted finale, marking Mahler's shift toward more purely instrumental structures after his earlier song-influenced symphonies.
