String Quartets in E-flat, Op. 12; A minor, Op. 13; and the Andante and Scherzo, Op. 81 are a collection of chamber works by Felix Mendelssohn, composed between 1829 and 1847. They exemplify Mendelssohn's Early Romantic idiom, combining classical quartet forms with lyrical melodies, transparent textures and fleet-footed scherzos, and they occupy a position in his output that bridges his youthful refinement and his later, more expansive chamber repertoire.
