Symphonies nos. 3 "Pastoral" and 6
Album by Ralph Vaughan Williams & Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra & Kees Bakels
Symphonies Nos. 3 "Pastoral" and 6 are orchestral works by English composer Ralph Vaughan Williams, composed in 1921–22 and 1946–47 respectively. The Third is leaner and more transparent in orchestration with restrained folk elements, while the Sixth is characterised by sharper dissonances and darker orchestral colours that reflect the wartime and postwar years and a move toward a more concentrated late style in the composer's output.
First released: June 1994
