Symphonie no. 1 is the first symphony by Gustav Mahler, completed in 1888. A late-Romantic orchestral work, it uses expansive orchestration, dramatic contrasts and influences from folk song and Lieder to develop an episodic, large-scale structure, and it marks Mahler's emergence as a symphonist in the late-Romantic tradition.
