Peer Gynt: Excerpts From the Incidental Music
Album by Edvard Grieg & Barbara Hendricks & Oslo‐Filharmonien & Esa‐Pekka Salonen
Peer Gynt: Excerpts from the Incidental Music is a set of orchestral pieces by Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg, composed in 1875 as incidental music for the play Peer Gynt. The music blends Norwegian folk-influenced melodies, lyrical orchestration and dramatic motifs intended for theatrical scenes, and the suites organised from the incidental score occupy a prominent place in Grieg's late-Romantic output and the wider tradition of national Romanticism.
