Il barbiere di Siviglia is an opera buffa by Italian composer Gioachino Rossini, premiered in 1816. Musically it is characterised by brisk orchestration, virtuosic patter singing and lively ensemble writing, and it helped consolidate Rossini's approach to comic opera within the early 19th-century repertory.
