Il trovatore is an opera by Italian composer Giuseppe Verdi, premiered in 1853. The work exemplifies Verdi's mature Romantic operatic style, featuring demanding vocal writing, expansive melodies, vigorous orchestration and sharp contrasts between lyric and martial passages, and it occupies a central place in his middle-period output and in the mid-19th-century Italian operatic repertoire.
