Symphony No. 15 / Incidental Music to The Gadfly is a compilation album of orchestral works by Dmitri Shostakovich, presenting his Symphony No. 15 (composed in 1971) alongside the incidental music he wrote for the film The Gadfly (composed in 1955). Musically it juxtaposes the introspective, often enigmatic language and varied orchestral colours of the late symphony with the more overtly melodic and cinematic textures of the earlier film music, illustrating contrasting phases of Shostakovich's compositional development.
