Symphony no. 7

Album by Gustav Mahler & The Cleveland Orchestra & Pierre Boulez

Symphony No. 7 is the seventh symphony by Austrian composer Gustav Mahler, completed in 1905. The work blends late-Romantic orchestral writing with nocturnal and march-like elements, featuring expansive orchestration, extended developmental passages and stark contrasts between sombre, introspective movements and more exuberant, scherzo-like sections, and it occupies a transitional place in Mahler's late output as he explored new approaches to form and colour.
First released: 2nd April 1996
