Symphony no. 1
Album by Gustav Mahler & Royal Philharmonic Orchestra & Andrew Litton
Symphony No. 1 is the first symphony by Austrian composer Gustav Mahler, completed in 1888. The work employs late-Romantic orchestral forces, folk-influenced motifs and expansive harmonic language to move through pastoral, processional and dramatic textures, and it represents an early large-scale statement in Mahler's career that presaged the greater orchestral scope of his later symphonies.
