Messiah is an oratorio by George Frideric Handel, composed in 1741 and first performed in Dublin in 1742. The work combines Baroque choral and orchestral forces with solo vocal writing and dramatic settings of biblical texts, exemplifying Handel's mature English oratorio style and its place in the development of large-scale sacred concert repertoire.
