Dido and Aeneas
Album by Henry Purcell & Academy of St Martin in the Fields & Sir Colin Davis
Dido and Aeneas is a three-act opera by English composer Henry Purcell, first performed in 1689. Written in the Baroque style, it combines expressive recitative, lyrical arias, choral writing and continuo-based instrumental textures, and is one of the few surviving English operas from the Restoration period that illustrates Purcell's contribution to the development of English Baroque stage music.
