Symphony no. 1

Album by Johannes Brahms & Los Angeles Philharmonic & Carlo Maria Giulini

Symphony No. 1 is the first symphony by German composer Johannes Brahms, completed and first performed in 1876. The work integrates classical symphonic forms with late-Romantic harmonic language and robust orchestration, featuring expansive thematic development and a trajectory from C minor to C major as Brahms emerged from a prolonged period of compositional gestation to enter the nineteenth-century symphonic tradition.
