Symphony no. 9
Album by Franz Schubert & Chicago Symphony Orchestra & James Levine
Symphony No. 9 in C major is the ninth symphony by Austrian composer Franz Schubert, completed in 1826. The work is a large-scale Romantic-era orchestral composition characterised by expansive, song-like melodies, rich harmonic invention and contrasts between full orchestral tuttis and more intimate textures, and it occupies an important position in Schubert's late output for its development of symphonic form and influence on later 19th-century symphonic writing.
