The Dream of Gerontius, Op. 38 is an oratorio by English composer Sir Edward Elgar, composed and first performed in 1900. Scored for soloists, chorus and orchestra, it uses late-Romantic harmonies, expansive choral writing and vivid orchestral colouring to set a devotional text and represents a pivotal work that established Elgar's reputation in British musical life at the turn of the 20th century.
