Symphonies Nos. 8 'Unfinished' and 9 'Great' are orchestral works by Franz Schubert, composed in 1822 and 1825–1828 respectively. They exemplify early Romantic symphonic writing, characterised by lyrical melodies, rich harmonic language and expansive orchestral textures, with the Eighth notable for its concise two-movement form and the Ninth for its large-scale scope that points forward to later Romantic symphonists.
