The Payback
Album by James Brown
The Payback is a studio album by American singer James Brown, released in 1973. The album is rooted in funk and soul, built around extended, groove-centred arrangements with prominent bass and drum patterns, syncopated horn lines and rhythmic guitar, and represents a phase in Brown's early 1970s career in which he prioritised raw, repetitive grooves that were later widely sampled in hip-hop and other popular music.
