Symphonies nos. 10 & 11
Album by Dmitri Dmitrievich Shostakovich & Государственный cимфонический оркестр Министерства культуры СССР & Gennadi Nikolayevich Rozhdestvensky
Symphonies Nos. 10 & 11 are orchestral compositions by Dmitri Shostakovich, composed in 1953 and 1957 respectively. Both works employ large orchestral forces, stark contrasts, biting dissonance and vivid orchestral colour, with the Tenth representing a shift in his post‑Stalin output toward a more intense, introspective language and the Eleventh adopting a more programme‑oriented, historically referential stance within his mid‑20th‑century repertoire.
