Symphonies Nos. 1 and 6 are symphonies by Finnish composer Jean Sibelius, completed in 1899 and 1923 respectively. Musically they juxtapose the youthful Romantic energy and thematic vividness of the earlier work with the later piece's leaner textures, austere harmonies and distinctive orchestral colours, marking significant stages in Sibelius's development as a symphonist.
