Romeo and Juliet / Symphony No. 4
Album by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky & Lorin Maazel & The Cleveland Orchestra
Romeo and Juliet and Symphony No. 4 are orchestral works by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, composed in 1869 and 1878 respectively. Both works are rooted in the Romantic orchestral tradition; Romeo and Juliet has sweeping lyrical themes and programme-driven drama, while the Fourth Symphony has a recurring fate motif, intricate writing for strings and brass, prominent woodwind parts and expanded orchestral forces that show Tchaikovsky's development in his mature period.
