Die tote Stadt is an opera by Austrian composer Erich Wolfgang Korngold, first performed in 1920. The score combines late-Romantic orchestral colour with rich, lyrical vocal lines and expressionist dramatic elements, occupying an important place in Korngold's early career as he moved from late-Romantic idioms toward a more modern operatic language.
