Pictures at an Exhibition is a suite for solo piano by Russian composer Modest Mussorgsky, composed in 1874. The work is rooted in the Romantic tradition and is characterised by vivid pictorialism, modal harmonies, abrupt dynamic contrasts and folk-influenced melodies, and it occupies a central place in Mussorgsky's output as an example of descriptive Russian music that later inspired numerous orchestral arrangements.
