Symphonies Nos. 2 and 4 are a pair of orchestral works by Johannes Brahms, composed in 1877 and 1885. They contrast a broadly lyrical, pastoral approach in the earlier work with a more concentrated, structurally rigorous late-Romantic language in the latter, featuring dense sonata-form writing and contrapuntal passages that demonstrate Brahms's command of form and orchestral colour.
