Requiem
Album by Gabriel Fauré & Edinburgh Choir of St. Mary’s Cathedral & Roland Wood & Donald Thomson & Simon Niemiński & Orchestra of St Mary's Music School & Matthew Owens
Requiem is a choral composition by French composer Gabriel Fauré, composed between 1887 and 1890. The work presents a restrained, consolatory setting of the requiem mass, favouring serene melodies, transparent orchestration and an intimate interplay between chorus and solo voices, and it occupies a distinctive place in Fauré's output as a late-Romantic work that contrasts with the more grandiose funeral settings of the period.
