The Four Symphonies

The Four Symphonies is the collective set of four symphonies by German composer Johannes Brahms, composed and premiered between 1876 and 1885. They exemplify late-Romantic orchestral writing, combining classical forms with dense harmonic language, motivic development and varied orchestral colour, and mark the culmination of Brahms's symphonic output and a central position in the orchestral repertoire.
